▸ About this event

Andrew Lloyd Webber's Cats prowls Regent's Park Open Air Theatre, staging its famous feline musical under the London summer sky.

There is something wonderful about seeing a big musical outdoors, and Cats at the Regent's Park Open Air Theatre is a quintessential London summer night out. Andrew Lloyd Webber's long-running show, all Jellicle cats, the soaring Memory and inventive dance, takes on fresh energy in a leafy amphitheatre where the setting sun and rustling trees become part of the staging.

What to expect

The Open Air Theatre is a beloved institution tucked inside Regent's Park, seating around 1,200 under the sky. Expect athletic choreography, a strong ensemble and the show's famous score carrying across the warm evening air. As dusk falls and the stage lighting takes over, the atmosphere becomes genuinely magical in a way an indoor West End house can't match.

Practical tips. This is open-air, so check the forecast and bring layers, as London evenings cool quickly and shows generally go ahead in light rain (ponchos are sold, umbrellas aren't allowed as they block views). Book ahead for the best seats, and arrive early to enjoy the garden bar and a picnic beforehand, a cherished ritual here. Give yourself time to walk in through the park, as it is a 10-minute stroll from the gate to your seat.
