The Grec Festival Barcelona runs 29 June–31 July 2026, filling the city's stages and its open-air Teatre Grec with theatre, dance, circus and music.
The Grec is Barcelona's flagship summer arts festival, a month of theatre, dance, circus and music that takes its name and its emblematic stage from the Teatre Grec, an open-air amphitheatre carved into the flank of Montjuïc for the 1929 International Exposition. Running since 1976, the festival now spreads across venues throughout the city, but a warm July night in the Greek theatre — stone tiers, cypress trees, the stage set against the hillside — remains its signature experience and one of the most atmospheric ways to see a performance anywhere in Spain. The 2026 edition marks the festival's 50th anniversary.
## What to expect
The programme runs to around a hundred shows, pairing major international names with Catalan and Spanish artists across theatre, dance, circus and a broad music strand that reaches from flamenco and folk to electronic and singer-songwriter work. Productions play both at the Teatre Grec and at partner theatres and spaces across Barcelona, so the festival functions as much as a citywide season as a single venue event; the anniversary year adds retrospective and celebratory programming.
Popular Teatre Grec evenings sell out, so book ahead through the official festival channels; the amphitheatre sits on Montjuïc, reachable on foot, by bus or via the Poble Sec metro and a walk uphill.

Where it happens
How to get there
The Grec Festival takes its name from the Teatre Grec, the open-air Greek-style amphitheatre on Montjuïc hill, though events spread across venues citywide. Fly into Barcelona El Prat (BCN), about 15 km southwest. The Aerobús or the R2 Nord train links the airport to the centre; the metro then connects onward. For the Teatre Grec itself, the nearest metro is Poble Sec on line 3 (green), from where it's an uphill walk, or you can take a bus up Montjuïc. Plaça Espanya is another handy access point for the hill. Check each show's venue, as performances at the Grec, the Mercat de les Flors and other spaces have different nearest stops.
