▸ About this event

India's festival of lights, when Jaipur's Pink City dazzles with market illuminations, oil lamps and fireworks.

Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights, is celebrated across India, with Jaipur renowned for its spectacular market illuminations. The five-day festival runs November 6-10, 2026, with the main Lakshmi Puja on the new-moon night of November 8. In Jaipur, the old-city bazaars such as Johari and Bapu compete in elaborate light displays, and homes glow with oil lamps (diyas) and fireworks. The city draws crowds to witness one of India's most dazzling Diwali scenes.

How to get there

Diwali is celebrated nationwide across India, but this pin sits in Jaipur, one of the country's most atmospheric places to see the festival of lights. Fly into Jaipur International Airport (JAI), about 12 km southeast of the old city, or connect via Delhi's Indira Gandhi International (DEL) and take the four-hour drive or train. From JAI, prepaid taxis and app cabs reach the Pink City walls in 30-40 minutes. Jaipur Junction is the main railway station, well linked to Delhi by fast trains. Around Diwali the bazaars of Johari and Bapu are floodlit; walk or use auto-rickshaws, as central traffic slows to a crawl.
