A vibrant open-air staging of the West African trickster tale of Anansi the spider, perfect summer family theatre in leafy Regent's Park.

Regent's Park Open Air Theatre is a London summer institution, a leafy amphitheatre where you watch under the sky with the park's trees as a backdrop. This staging of Anansi the Spider brings the beloved West African and Caribbean folk hero to life: the clever, mischievous spider whose wits repeatedly outsmart bigger, stronger creatures.

Aimed squarely at families, expect colour, music, puppetry and plenty of humour as Anansi schemes and scrambles through his tales. The open-air setting adds its own magic, with birdsong, rustling leaves and the fading evening light becoming part of the show. It is an accessible, joyful introduction to live theatre for children, and a relaxed, characterful night out for the adults with them.

Tips for your visit

Book ahead, as popular family dates and matinees sell out over the summer holidays. This is open-air, so dress for the weather: bring layers, a rain poncho just in case, and cushions, as some seating is bench-style. Arrive early to enjoy the park and the theatre's picnic areas; you can often eat before the show. Check whether your performance is a matinee or evening, and factor in the light walk across the park to your seat.
