Budapest International Wine Festival 2026 runs 9-12 September in the courtyards of Buda Castle, with Hungarian and international wines above the Danube.
Every September, the terraces and courtyards of Buda Castle turn into one of Central Europe's most scenic wine fairs. The Budapest International Wine Festival, reaching its 35th edition in 2026, gathers Hungarian winemakers from every region of the country alongside international guests, all set against the UNESCO-listed Castle District and its sweeping views down over the Danube and across to Pest.
## What to expect
The festival spreads across several parts of the castle complex, with tasting stands, winemakers pouring their own bottles, food pairings, and live music through the afternoons and evenings. Entry typically includes access to the grounds, with wines bought by the glass or via tasting arrangements at individual stalls. Each edition spotlights a guest of honour; for 2026 the festival turns its focus to the Americas, showcasing New World wines alongside the Hungarian producers. The setting, more than anything, is the draw: tasting Tokaji or a Villány red with the river and city laid out below is hard to beat.
The castle sits on the Buda side and is reached on foot, by bus, or via the funicular from Clark Ádám Square. Go in the late afternoon for the best light over the Danube, and buy entry tickets in advance during the busy weekend.
