Pure, stripped-back flamenco in an intimate 18th-century Seville courtyard house, widely rated among the city's most authentic tablao experiences.

Seville is the cradle of flamenco, and Casa de la Memoria is where many purists send you to feel it. Set in the patio of a restored old house near the cathedral, this small, candle-lit venue strips the art back to essentials: a singer, a guitarist and a dancer, no gimmicks, just the crackling intensity of duende at close range.

With only a few dozen seats around a modest wooden stage, you are near enough to hear the dancer's breath and the scuff of shoes on boards. Performers rotate, so styles shift from the anguished depths of seguiriya to the playful snap of alegrías, each number introduced simply and danced with fierce commitment. The absence of dinner or spectacle keeps the focus wholly on the music, which is why aficionados rate it so highly.

Tips for your visit

Shows are short and seats limited, so book ahead, especially in summer; same-day tickets often vanish. Arrive 20-30 minutes early to claim a front-ish, central seat, as sightlines matter in such a small room. Photography without flash is usually allowed only at set moments, so watch for staff cues, and hold applause until pieces end. It pairs perfectly with tapas beforehand in the surrounding Santa Cruz lanes.

Where it happens
How to get there
Fly into Seville Airport (SVQ), about 10 km northeast; the EA airport bus runs to the centre in roughly 35 minutes, ending near the Prado de San Sebastián hub. Casa de la Memoria lies just north of the cathedral in the old town, within a 10-minute walk of the Archivo de Indias and Puerta de Jerez stops on the T1 tram line. The nearest metro station is Puerta de Jerez (Line 1). The medieval streets are pedestrianised and taxi-unfriendly, so tram to the cathedral area and finish on foot.
