A soul-stirring live flamenco tablao in Seville's Arenal quarter, where guitar, song and thunderous footwork fill an intimate room.
<p>Seville is the beating heart of flamenco, and seeing it in a proper <em>tablao</em> in the atmospheric Arenal district, near the bullring and the river, is one of Andalusia's essential experiences. This is not a watered-down tourist revue but a tight, professional show of song (<em>cante</em>), guitar (<em>toque</em>) and dance (<em>baile</em>) performed close enough that you feel the floor shake.</p><h3>What to expect</h3><p>In a small, warmly lit room, a rotating company of dancers, a singer and a guitarist build the performance from smouldering slow passages to explosive, foot-hammering climaxes. Flamenco thrives on <em>duende</em>, that hard-to-translate flash of raw emotion, and in a good tablao you can watch it ignite between the artists in real time. Shows typically run around an hour and often include a drink or the option of dinner.</p><p>A few tips. Book in advance and ask for a front-row or second-row seat, as sightlines matter enormously for the footwork. Arrive 15–20 minutes early to settle in. During the performance, hold applause and any <em>olé!</em> until the natural breaks, and keep phones down, as photography with flash is disruptive and often forbidden. Come for the earlier evening slot if you want a calmer, more intimate room.</p>

Where it happens
How to get there
Fly into Seville Airport (SVQ), about 10 km northeast of the centre; the EA airport bus runs to the city in roughly 35 minutes. The Arenal district sits by the Guadalquivir river near the Torre del Oro and the Maestranza bullring. The city's single Metro line and the Setas/Metrocentro tram serve the centre, with the tram terminating near Plaza Nueva, a short walk from Arenal. From the main Santa Justa railway station it is about 10 minutes by taxi. The historic quarter is compact and walkable, so most venues are an easy stroll from the cathedral.
