About Provence

Provence in July, when the lavender fields bloom in rolling purple waves beneath limestone hills, is one of the great sensory experiences of Europe. The Luberon's hilltop villages — Gordes, Roussillon, Bonnieux — seem plucked from another century. Markets burst with tapenade, truffles, rosé wine and sun-warmed tomatoes. Van Gogh and Cézanne came here for the light; you'll understand why within an hour.
