About Fes

Fes el-Bali is the world's largest car-free urban zone — an intact medieval city of 9,000 alleyways where mules carry goods and the 12th century is still present in stone. The Chouara Tannery's honeycomb of dyeing pits viewed from the surrounding riad terraces is one of Morocco's most distinctive images. The Al-Qarawiyyin mosque complex, founded in 859 AD, is argued to be the world's oldest continuously operating university.
