About Alentejo

The Alentejo is Portugal's bread basket and its soul — a vast inland plateau of cork oak forests, sunflower fields, whitewashed villages and some of the country's finest wine and cuisine. Évora's UNESCO-listed city centre preserves a Roman temple, Gothic cathedral and an ossuary chapel. The prehistoric megaliths scattered across the region predate Stonehenge. Slow travel at its most rewarding.
