About Sigiriya

Rising abruptly from the jungle, the Sigiriya rock fortress was transformed into a royal citadel by a 5th-century king, complete with water gardens, frescoes of celestial maidens and a monumental gateway once shaped like a lion. The climb past a mirror wall and the surviving lion's paws to the summit palace ruins is one of Asia's great experiences.
