About Bosra

Once a great Roman provincial capital and caravan city, Bosra is built almost entirely of black volcanic basalt, giving its ruins a striking, sombre grandeur. Its crowning glory is a superbly preserved Roman theatre, unusually enclosed within a later Arab citadel that protected it for centuries. Colonnaded streets, baths and early churches complete the site.
