Why Syria
A cradle of civilisation: ancient Damascus, the ruins of Palmyra and legendary Levantine hospitality, a heritage giant recovering from war.
Syria is one of the oldest inhabited places on earth, a Levantine crossroads where Damascus and Aleppo, among the world's oldest continuously lived-in cities, layer millennia of history into their souks, courtyards and mosques.
Its heritage is staggering: the desert ruins of Palmyra, crusader castles like Krak des Chevaliers, and food and hospitality that anchor the whole Levantine tradition.
A vital caution: Syria is emerging from years of conflict, infrastructure and security remain fragile, and most governments still advise against travel. This is a portrait of an extraordinary civilisation, not a recommendation to visit, always check current official advice first.
