Bath

Bath is England's most perfectly preserved Georgian city — a UNESCO World Heritage Site of honey-coloured Bath stone crescents, Roman thermal baths and Jane Austen-era assembly rooms. The Roman Baths are the best-preserved Roman remains in northern Europe; the Thermae Bath Spa lets you swim on a rooftop terrace above the city in the same spring water the Romans discovered. Easily visited from London (1 hour 20 minutes by train).
