▸ About this event

New Orleans' Carnival climax on Fat Tuesday, with krewe parades, beads and masking through the French Quarter.

Mardi Gras is the climax of New Orleans' Carnival season, culminating on Fat Tuesday, February 9, 2027, the day before Ash Wednesday. In the preceding weeks, krewes roll elaborate float parades along St. Charles Avenue and Canal Street, tossing beads and doubloons to crowds. On the final day, revelers in costume fill the French Quarter and neighbourhoods citywide. The season traditionally opens on Twelfth Night, January 6.

▸ Getting there

How to get there

Fly into Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY), about 18 km west of the French Quarter. The Airport-Downtown express bus (Route 202) or a rideshare/taxi gets you into the city in roughly 30–40 minutes. Mardi Gras parades roll along St. Charles Avenue and into the French Quarter, and the historic St. Charles streetcar line is the classic way to reach the route; the Canal Street streetcar serves the downtown end. On parade days, expect street closures and detours, so build in extra time and plan to walk the last stretch to the neutral ground.
