About Dovrefjell (Musk Ox Country)

Dovrefjell is a high mountain plateau in central Norway, long a symbol of the nation and now protected as the Dovrefjell–Sunndalsfjella National Park. Its most famous residents are the musk oxen — shaggy Ice-Age survivors reintroduced here, which guided 'musk-ox safaris' from Oppdal and Hjerkinn set out to find on the open tundra. The plateau is also home to wild reindeer and the Snøhetta peak, and the striking Tverrfjellhytta viewpoint pavilion looks out over the herds' range.
