About Røros Mining Town
<p>Røros is a remarkably preserved 17th-century copper-mining town on a high, cold plateau in Trøndelag, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its blackened timber houses, turf roofs and the landmark stone church line streets little changed in centuries, and the surrounding slag heaps and smelter ruins tell of 333 years of copper mining that ended in 1977. Bitterly cold in winter and postcard-pretty under snow, 'Bergstaden' (the mountain town) is one of the best-preserved wooden towns in Europe.</p>
