Tolmin Gorges (Tolminska korita)

<p>At around 180 metres above sea level, the Tolmin Gorges are the lowest and southernmost entrance to Triglav National Park, and a completely different proposition from the alpine heights the park is known for. Two gorges meet here — the Tolminka and the Zadlaščica — which is a genuinely unusual arrangement, and a circular path threads both on walkways and steps beside water so clear it looks lit from below.</p><p>Three things fix the visit in memory: the Bear's Head, a wedge-shaped boulder jammed overhead in the narrowest slot of the Zadlaščica; the Devil's Bridge, carrying the road some sixty metres above the Tolminka; and, at the confluence, a thermal spring warm enough to notice. Above the bridge lies the Zadlaška or Dante's Cave, which local tradition holds the poet visited and took as a model for the Inferno.</p>
