Vintgar Gorge

<p>Vintgar is the walk everybody does from Bled, and deservedly. The Radovna river has cut a narrow gorge through the rock northwest of the town, and since 1893 a wooden walkway has been pinned to its walls — opened to the public on 26 August that year, and rebuilt many times since. The route runs about 1.6 kilometres, crossing and recrossing the water on galleries and bridges directly above pools of an almost artificial green, with the rock closing overhead.</p><p>It ends at the Šum waterfall, the largest river waterfall in Slovenia, where the gorge finally opens out. The path is one-way in the busy season and timed entry applies, which has made a formerly overwhelmed site pleasant again; walking back to Bled over the hill, rather than retracing the boardwalk, turns it into a satisfying morning.</p>
