How to get there
Geneva (GVA) is the packet gateway, with Zürich and Bern also serving the Bernese Oberland; the approach runs into the Kander and Simme valleys and climbs to the villages.
Switzerland's efficient rail network reaches the Bernese Oberland via Frutigen and the Simmental, with connecting postbuses completing the journey up to Adelboden and Lenk.
The final leg is a scenic valley drive that climbs gently to the villages; it is comfortable in good conditions, and the excellent public-transport links make a car-free trip easy.
Best time: January to March offers the most reliable snow, with the World Cup race weekend in January a highlight for spectators.
