The resort
Perched on the Oddsskarð pass in the Eastern Region, this little area serves the fjord communities of Fjarðabyggð, above all the fishing town of Neskaupstaður tucked beneath it. It is a classic small Icelandic hill: a few lifts and simple runs on high, treeless slopes, surrounded by the steep peaks and deep blue fjords that define Iceland's wild east. Historically reached through a narrow single-lane mountain tunnel, it has an end-of-the-road remoteness that is very much part of its charm. Opening is entirely weather-led, and the reward for making the trip is uncrowded snow and some of the most spectacular fjord scenery skiing has to offer.

How to get there
Egilsstaðir Airport (EGS) is the nearest gateway, served by domestic flights from Reykjavík, with Keflavík (KEF) the international arrival point far to the west.
The approach is by mountain road and tunnel over the Oddsskarð pass; a hire car with winter tyres is essential and conditions can change fast.
Best time: Late winter into spring, around February to April, brings the steadiest snow and lengthening daylight.
