The resort
Tucked at the northern tip of Andorra, part of the Vallnord family but distinct in character, Ordino-Arcalís is the principality's freeride sanctuary. Its high, mostly north-facing bowls hold cold, dry snow long after it has softened elsewhere, and the terrain rises into a wild amphitheatre of couloirs, ridgelines and open powder fields that rewards confident skiers. It feels quieter and more mountainous than Andorra's shopping-and-nightlife resorts, drawing those who come to ski rather than to party. Below the freeride playground sits a tidy spread of pistes for all levels, but the soul of the place is its steep, snow-sure high ground.

How to get there
The practical international gateways are Barcelona (BCN) and Toulouse (TLS), each around three hours' drive; the small Andorra–La Seu d'Urgell airport is nearest but very limited.
Regular coach transfers and hire cars serve Andorra from both airports, followed by a scenic climb up the Ordino valley to the base.
Best time: January through March, when the north-facing bowls hold the coldest, deepest snow of the season.
