Rukatunturi, Ruka

Ruka sits on the Rukatunturi fell above Kuusamo, deep in the forests and lakes of north-east Finland close to the Russian border. Uniquely for Finland, its lifts and pistes fan out from a village perched right at the top of the fell, so you often start the day by skiing down and ride back up to the shops, restaurants and hotels. The terrain is spread across two faces of the hill, with wide groomed runs, well-regarded snow parks and easy access to a vast cross-country network in the surrounding wilderness.
