▸ What it is

Babylon Soundgarden is an open-air summer festival in Istanbul, usually over a weekend in late August, with international and Turkish acts in a wooded setting.

Babylon Soundgarden is the outdoor summer edition of Istanbul's long-running Babylon music brand, most recently staged by Pozitif Müzik among the pine trees of Bonus Parkorman in the Maslak district. Over one or two days it gathers a deliberately eclectic bill — indie, rock, electronic and Turkish acts sharing the same weekend — in a forested open-air setting that feels a world away from the traffic of the city below. It has become a fixture of the Istanbul summer calendar, prized for a line-up that rarely repeats itself and for the easy, festival-in-the-woods atmosphere that comes with the venue.

What to expect

Each edition is built around a mix of headline international names and emerging Turkish and regional artists spread over the festival's stages. Crowds are enthusiastic and cosmopolitan, and the wooded grounds give the event a greener, more relaxed feel than a typical urban festival. Dates are usually announced in late spring or early summer on babylon.com.tr, and programming and set times are confirmed closer to the date on the festival's own channels.

Single-day and combined two-day tickets are typically sold through Turkish ticketing platforms; buy ahead for popular nights. Parkorman sits north of the centre in Maslak, reachable by metro and taxi.

▸ Getting there

Getting there & around on event days

Babylon Soundgarden has most recently been held at Bonus Parkorman, a wooded park in Maslak, Sarıyer, north of Istanbul's centre. Istanbul has two airports: the larger Istanbul Airport (IST) on the European side and Sabiha Gökçen (SAW) on the Asian side. From IST, the M11 metro or the airport HAVAIST bus links to the city; Parkorman is reachable by metro and taxi. Check the venue and travel details on babylon.com.tr once the next edition is announced. Evening traffic in Istanbul is heavy, so the metro is usually faster than a taxi for most of the journey.
