Oaxaca's Day of the Dead, with candlelit cemetery vigils, marigold altars and costumed comparsas honouring the departed.
Día de Muertos in Oaxaca City is among Mexico's most vivid observances, held October 31 to November 2, 2026. Families build marigold-decked ofrendas and hold candlelit graveside vigils, notably at Xoxocotlán on October 31 and city cemeteries on November 1-2. Streets fill with comparsas, Catrina costume processions, sand-tapestry displays and market feasts. The celebration blends Catholic and Indigenous Zapotec and Mixtec traditions across the historic centre and surrounding villages.
