▸ What it is

Kraków's Christmas market fills the Main Market Square from 27 November 2026 to 6 January 2027, per the organiser's schedule. Free to enter.

Every winter the Krakowska Kongregacja Kupiecka (Kraków Merchants' Congregation) sets up a Christmas market of wooden kiosks on the Main Market Square (Rynek Główny), beside the Town Hall Tower. The organiser says the market draws on the city's medieval trading traditions, while its modern form took shape in the 20th century. The city describes it as one that has run for more than 30 years, and in 2025 it counted 105 trade and food kiosks, with traders from across Poland and guest sellers from Lithuania, Ukraine, Slovakia and Hungary.

The stalls sell Christmas decorations, crafts and regional food, and a stage by the Town Hall Tower hosts carol singing and presentations from towns and villages across the Małopolska region. December also brings the Kraków nativity scene (szopka) competition, a city tradition run by the Museum of Kraków, which starts on the square.

This season

The organiser's 2026 events schedule lists the market from 27 November 2026 to 6 January 2027. The City of Kraków hadn't published its own notice for the 2026 market, and the organiser hadn't published opening hours or a programme, when this page was checked. In the last three seasons the market closed on 1 January, so check the closing date before you plan a trip in the first week of January.

▸ Getting there

Getting there & around on event days

Fly into Kraków John Paul II International Airport (KRK), about 11 km in a straight line from the city centre, according to the airport. Its regular flights schedule lists UK destinations including London (Gatwick, Heathrow, Luton and Stansted), Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Belfast, Leeds Bradford, Liverpool, Newcastle, East Midlands, Bournemouth and Aberdeen. Winter timetables change, so check the airport's schedule for your dates.

Airport to the centre: Koleje Małopolskie trains run from the airport station to Kraków Główny in just under 20 minutes, roughly every half hour during the day. Buy tickets from the machines in the terminal (level 0) or from the conductor on board, by cash or card.
