Veranos de la Villa fills Madrid with music, dance and theatre from early July to late August or September, at Condeduque, Matadero and venues citywide.
Veranos de la Villa is Madrid's long-running summer cultural festival, a season-long programme that turns the city's courtyards, cultural centres and parks into open-air stages while much of Spain heads for the coast. Now past its fourth decade, it has become a defining part of the Madrid summer, spreading music, dance, flamenco, theatre and outdoor performance across neighbourhoods rather than concentrating them in a single site — a festival you dip into over weeks rather than binge over a weekend.
What to expect
The festival runs across the heart of summer, from early July to late August or September (the programme is usually presented in June), with a broad programme of concerts, dance and stage works spread over many of the city's districts. Anchor venues include the Centro de Cultura Contemporánea Condeduque, a former barracks turned cultural hub, and Matadero Madrid, the striking former slaughterhouse-turned-arts-complex by the river; open-air cinema and park concerts round out the calendar. A large share of the programme is free, with affordable tickets for the headline stage shows.
Check the official programme and book the ticketed headline events in advance; many free performances are first-come, and balmy Madrid evenings mean the best atmosphere comes after sundown.

Getting there & around on event days
Fly into Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport (MAD), then ride Metro Line 8 to Nuevos Ministerios and connect into the centre, roughly 30–40 minutes. Veranos de la Villa stages events across the city, with many at venues around the centre and the Conde Duque cultural complex; the nearest metro stops include Plaza de España and Ventura Rodríguez (Line 3), plus Noviciado (Line 2). Check your specific ticket for the exact site, as the festival spreads across parks, theatres and courtyards. Madrid's metro is fast, cheap and runs late, making it the easiest way between venues.
