Preacher's Cave

<p>Preacher's Cave, near the northern tip of Eleuthera, is where the Eleutheran Adventurers — a group of English religious dissenters — sheltered after being shipwrecked on the Devil's Backbone reef in 1648, holding services in its high, cathedral-like chamber. A natural opening in the roof lights a rock ledge said to have served as a pulpit. It is regarded as the birthplace of the first organised European settlement in the Bahamas, and sits beside a quiet, beautiful stretch of beach.</p>
