About Queen's Staircase
<p>The Queen's Staircase is a corridor of steps cut by hand out of the solid limestone of a Nassau hillside in the late 1700s, reputedly by enslaved labourers, linking the town below to Fort Fincastle on the ridge above. Shaded by a narrow rock gorge and often fed by a small waterfall, it was later named for Queen Victoria. It is one of downtown Nassau's most-visited historic sites and an easy walk from Bay Street and the cruise port, usually combined with Fort Fincastle and its water tower.</p>
