About Bryggen (Hanseatic Wharf)
<p>Bryggen is the old Hanseatic wharf on Bergen's harbour — a leaning row of narrow, pointed-gable wooden merchant houses rebuilt on the same medieval plots for some 900 years, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Behind the colourful quayside façade runs a warren of timber passages, galleries and small museums recalling the centuries when German Hanseatic traders ran the dried-cod trade from here. Repeatedly burned and rebuilt, it is the atmospheric heart of Bergen and one of Norway's most recognisable sights.</p>
