About The Kon-Tiki Museum

The Kon-Tiki Museum on Bygdøy tells the story of Thor Heyerdahl, the Norwegian adventurer who in 1947 sailed a balsa-wood raft, the Kon-Tiki, some 8,000 km across the Pacific to test his theory that ancient peoples could have crossed the ocean. The original raft is here, along with the reed boat Ra II, finds from his Easter Island expeditions, and a cave walk. It is a small, characterful museum of one man's audacious experiments in experimental archaeology, and a longtime Bygdøy favourite.
