<p>Preikestolen (Pulpit Rock) is a flat-topped cliff that juts out roughly 600 metres above the Lysefjord in Rogaland, its near-square plateau ending in a sheer, railing-free drop to the water. Reached by one of Norway's most popular mountain hikes — around eight kilometres there and back over rock and boardwalk — it draws huge numbers in summer for the clean edge and the great fjord view. Out of season the trail can be snow-covered or icy and is best attempted only with proper equipment.</p>
