About Golubac Fortress
Golubac Fortress dates from the 14th century and sits on a steep cliff on the right bank of the Danube, at the western edge of Đerdap National Park. Its keep, the Hat Tower, crowns the cliff, and two rows of walls with eight square towers fan out below, so the whole thing seems to cascade to the water. Serbs, Hungarians and Ottomans each held it in turn.
Inside, the palace and several towers hold exhibitions, and there is a café. The standard ticket covers the complex and the green zone; special zones need a separate ticket and are limited, so check the site first. The fortress is closed on Mondays, and opening hours get shorter in winter. Come in the warmer months, and allow time for the Danube road.
