The resort
Cerkno rises above the town of Cerkno in the green, forested hills of western Slovenia, a compact resort that punches above its size on grooming and snow management. It is a firm favourite with families and intermediates, offering neatly pisted runs, a modern lift or two and a strong reliance on snowmaking that keeps it dependable when natural falls are thin at these moderate altitudes. The atmosphere is calm and welcoming rather than flashy, and the nearby spa and thermal offerings around Cerkno add an easy way to unwind after a day on the hill. It makes a relaxed, good-value base away from the busier alpine crowds.
