The resort
Tucked into the Škofja Loka hills of Upper Carniola, Stari Vrh is a small, unhurried resort that draws local families and after-work skiers rather than international crowds. Despite its modest footprint it packs in a surprisingly generous vertical for a hill of this size, with pleasant intermediate runs through the trees and a well-regarded ski school. Its stand-out feature is regular floodlit night skiing, letting Ljubljana commuters ski after dark. The atmosphere is relaxed and distinctly Slovenian, with mountain huts serving hearty food. Snow can be marginal at lower elevations, so snowmaking helps secure the season.

Skiing & terrain
A gentle base area and ski school make it a comfortable place to start.
Cruisy red and blue runs down the fall line are the resort's bread and butter.
Limited steeper terrain; more of a relaxed cruising hill.
Not a destination for experts, though the vertical gives longer descents than the size suggests.
Skiing under the floodlights
Stari Vrh's regular night skiing sessions are its signature, letting locals from Ljubljana and Škofja Loka carve illuminated pistes after the working day.
