Set on the Goderdzi Pass in the mountains of Adjara, inland from the Black Sea coast, this young resort has built a reputation on one thing above all: snow. Moist air rolling in from the Black Sea dumps some of the heaviest snowfall in Georgia here, burying the surrounding beech forests and open bowls and making it a quiet favourite among powder-seekers. Development is still modest, with a small lift network and a handful of pistes, so much of the appeal lies in the abundant off-piste and the sense of a mountain not yet discovered. It suits adventurous skiers happy to trade amenities for untracked snow and dramatic, remote scenery.

How to get there
Batumi (BUS) on the Black Sea coast is the nearest international gateway, with Kutaisi (KUT) another option; both connect onward to the mountains by road.
The final climb up to the pass is a long, winding and sometimes snowbound mountain road; a sturdy vehicle or arranged transfer is strongly advised in winter.
Best time: January and February bring the deepest, most reliable snow to the Goderdzi Pass.
