The resort
Despite the international ring of its name, Crystal sits firmly in Bakuriani, the family-friendly ski town in Georgia's Borjomi region, occupying a private pocket of slope between the Kokhta and Didveli sectors. It is a self-contained resort complex with its own lifts, hotel, spa and cottages, run independently of the town's main lift system, so its ski pass is separate from the Bakuriani network. What sets it apart is dependability: extensive snowmaking keeps the pistes working through mild spells, and the illuminated slope makes it one of the region's best places for an evening ski. How to get there
Tbilisi (TBS) and Kutaisi (KUT) are the usual international gateways, each a few hours away by road, with Kutaisi popular for low-cost European flights.
The approach climbs by mountain road up to Bakuriani; transfers and taxis run from both airports, and a scenic narrow-gauge railway also reaches the town.
Best time: December to March offers the coldest weather and best natural cover, backed by snowmaking throughout.
