The snow centre
Vallei 53 is an artificial-surface ski centre on the edge of Enschede, close to the German border in the eastern Netherlands. Its skiing is not on snow but on brush slopes (borstelbaan), synthetic matting that can be used all year regardless of weather, home to the long-running Skischool Moser. Three slopes of differing gradients cater mainly to lessons and practice, from complete beginners to skiers keeping their technique sharp before a mountain holiday. The wider site is a leisure park offering tubing, climbing and other activities, so it works as a family day out as much as a ski venue. This is a training and practice centre rather than a real mountain, dependable precisely because it never depends on snow.
