The resort
The busy little town of Voss sits amid the fjords and peaks of western Norway, and its ski slopes rise directly above it, reached by a cable car from the town centre. It is the largest and best-known resort in the region, combining tidy pistes for all abilities with genuine freeride terrain and the raw, dramatic scenery of fjordland Norway. Voss has a strong adventure-sports culture and an authentic, unshowy Norwegian atmosphere rather than a manufactured resort feel. How to get there
Bergen (BGO) is the gateway, around an hour and a half away; the scenic Bergen Line railway also runs directly into Voss.
Drive or, more memorably, take the train from Bergen straight to Voss station, a short walk from the cable car.
Best time: January to March gives the coldest, most reliable snow before spring warmth reaches the coastal mountains.
