▸ What it is

Sydney's LGBTQIA+ festival runs 12 February to 7 March 2027, with Fair Day on 14 February and the Parade on Oxford Street on Saturday 6 March.

Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras is the city's LGBTQIA+ festival, run by the community organisation of the same name. The 2027 festival runs from 12 February to 7 March 2027 under the theme HYPERBLOOM, and the Parade is the 49th. The organiser says the full 2027 programme will be announced in the last quarter of 2026.

Fair Day

Fair Day opens the festival in Victoria Park, at the corner of Parramatta Road and City Road, on Sunday 14 February 2027, from 10am to 9pm. It is free and Auslan-interpreted, and includes DoggyWood, the festival's dog pageant.

The Parade

The Parade is on Saturday 6 March 2027, from 6pm to 11pm. It travels from Hyde Park to Moore Park along Oxford Street, Flinders Street and Anzac Parade, through Darlinghurst and Surry Hills. The organiser lists it as an all-ages, family and free event. You can watch from free spots along the route or from premium ticketed areas such as the Glitter Club.

Mardi Gras acknowledges that its events take place on Aboriginal land and names the Gadigal, Cammeraygal, Bidigal, Darug and Dharawal peoples as Traditional Custodians of the Sydney Basin.

▸ Getting there

Getting there & around on event days

Fly into Sydney Airport (SYD), 8 km from the city centre. Trains reach the city in about 13 minutes and run about every 10 minutes. You can buy an Opal card at the airport, or tap on and off with a contactless American Express, Mastercard or Visa card.

On Parade night in 2026, Museum station was closed from 5pm until 4am. The organiser advised Town Hall, St James, Martin Place or Kings Cross stations for the north side of the route and Central for the south side. For Flinders Street, it suggested the Moore Park light rail stop. Major roads from the city centre to Moore Park closed from 4pm to 2am. The 2027 transport and closure details have not been published yet. The organiser warns that a hire car may slow you down and cost a lot in parking.

▸ Good to know

Practical tips & etiquette

  • Plan the Parade night around public transport. In 2026 major roads near the route closed from 4pm, and the organiser warns that a car may slow you down and cost a lot in parking.
  • Choose your side of the route. Stations differ for the north side (Town Hall, St James, Martin Place, Kings Cross) and the south side (Central).
  • Pay by card on transport: contactless American Express, Mastercard and Visa cards work like an Opal card.
  • Look for Auslan symbols on event listings if you need interpreting.
  • Check the 2027 programme: the full programme is announced in the last quarter of 2026.
▸ Accessibility

Accessibility

The Parade has a free Accessible Viewing Area on Short Street. You must register by 5pm on Tuesday 26 January 2027. In 2026 a free shuttle bus ran for registered guests and accessible ticketholders, from Foveaux Street before the Parade (5pm to 8.30pm) and from Albion Street at Bourke Street afterwards (9.30pm to 11pm). A buggy connected the shuttle drop-off with the viewing area. The Glitter Club has ticketed accessible seating, with limited spaces.

Auslan interpreters work at several Mardi Gras events, including Fair Day. An audience Visual Story is available for the Parade. People who need a companion or carer can get a free ticket for them with a Companion Card. To discuss access needs, call (02) 9383 0900 (weekdays 10am to 6pm) or use the contact form.
