About Bratislava Castle
Bratislava Castle stands on a rocky plateau above the Danube, a white, four-towered block that dominates the skyline. Today it houses the history museum of the Slovak National Museum, with exhibitions on the castle and the region, and the Treasury. The grounds are open late and are a favourite for an evening walk with views over the Old Town, the river and the UFO bridge.
The baroque garden below the castle is open in all seasons with hours that grow longer in summer. Climb up from the Old Town via the steps by Michael's Gate, or take the longer route from the riverfront. The castle is closed on 12 and 13 November 2026, according to the museum website, and exhibition rooms are closed on Tuesdays.
