Rising above the pretty lakeside village of Villa La Angostura in Neuquén, Cerro Bayo is one of Patagonia's most relaxed and picturesque ski areas. It is a small, boutique resort with an emphasis on sunny, gentle-to-intermediate slopes and jaw-dropping views out over the vast Lago Nahuel Huapi and the surrounding Andes. Quiet pistes, short lift queues and a charming craft-and-café town below make it a favourite for families and unhurried skiers rather than thrill-seekers. As a Southern Hemisphere resort it operates through the local winter, and snow can be plentiful in a good season though warm, sunny spells sometimes soften the lower runs. The combination of scenery, calm and village charm is its real signature.

How to get there
Bariloche (BRC) is the main regional gateway, roughly an hour and a half around the lake by road; San Martín de los Andes is an alternative approach.
