Chapelco Ski Resort

Chapelco rises above San Martín de los Andes, one of Patagonia's prettiest towns, on the shores of Lago Lácar and at the gateway to the famous Seven Lakes route. The mountain climbs from dense lenga and coihue forest onto more open upper slopes, with the striking cone of the Lanín volcano filling the view for much of the day. It is a tidy, nicely groomed resort with a friendly, unhurried feel, quieter than its larger Patagonian neighbour and well suited to families and mixed-ability groups. Tree-lined runs give shelter and character on stormy days, while clear days deliver some of the most photogenic scenery in Argentine skiing. Through the austral winter the mountain sees Patagonian snowfalls that settle well in the forest, giving pleasant, sheltered skiing when storms roll through and bright, calm days between them. The wooded lower slopes hold their snow and shelter the wind, while the upper mountain opens to wide views of Lanín. It is generally a gentler, more forgiving winter character than the exposed high Andes.
