Après & vibe
Low-key and family-oriented, with cosy mountain huts and inns serving hearty Austrian fare rather than a lively party scene.
The resort
Set on the wooded ridges of the Böhmerwald (Bohemian Forest) close to where Austria, Germany and the Czech Republic meet, Hochficht is a small, welcoming resort in the Mühlviertel of Upper Austria. It trades the crowds and prices of the high Alps for relaxed, forest-lined pistes, modern lifts and a genuinely family-friendly feel, making it a favourite local escape rather than a jet-set destination. The terrain is gentle to intermediate and the atmosphere calm, with snow support from snowmaking given the moderate altitude of the surrounding hills. Its quiet forests and unpretentious character are the whole point. It offers dependable, good-value winter days for families and cruisers.
