The resort
Plešivec rises above the historic mining town of Abertamy in the Krušné hory, the Ore Mountains that form the Czech-German frontier northwest of Karlovy Vary. It is a small, self-contained area of largely tree-lined pistes served by a modern chairlift and a spread of surface tows. The mood is firmly family and weekender: unhurried blues and reds, ski schools, tubing and regular night-skiing sessions rather than any pretension to Alpine scale. Its lower altitude means it leans hard on snowmaking, but its sheltered forest setting helps hold cover. It makes an easy, affordable outing for visitors from Bohemia and neighbouring Saxony.
Go for uncomplicated, good-value family skiing within easy reach of Karlovy Vary and the German border, with modern lifts, floodlit evening runs and a calm atmosphere. It suits beginners, families and anyone wanting a low-key weekend on the snow without crowds or cost.
As a lower Ore Mountains area, Plešivec depends heavily on snowmaking through a season of modest natural falls, but its forested slopes shade the pistes and keep the surface in reasonable shape. The terrain is gentle to moderate and well groomed, the atmosphere quiet midweek and busier on weekends when families arrive from the surrounding towns.

How to get there
Prague (PRG) is the gateway, roughly two hours by road to the northwest; Karlovy Vary is the nearest sizeable town.
The approach climbs from the Karlovy Vary basin up into the Ore Mountains on winding roads that can need winter tyres in snow.
Best time: January and February provide the coldest snowmaking conditions and most dependable cover on this lower hill.
