▸ What it is

Formula 1 returns to Portugal on 18–20 June 2027 at the Algarve circuit near Portimão, about 82 km by road from Faro airport.

Formula 1 returns to Portugal on 18–20 June 2027, at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve in the hills above Portimão. formula1.com lists a standard weekend: two practice sessions on Friday 18 June, final practice and qualifying on Saturday 19 June, and the race on Sunday 20 June. It isn't a Sprint weekend, and 2027 session times haven't been published yet.

The circuit opened in 2008 and hosted the Portuguese Grand Prix in 2020 and 2021. Its promoter calls it the rollercoaster: 16 corners with steep climbs and drops, a maximum fall of 12% and a main straight of 969 m, according to the official race site. formula1.com picks out the stands at the end of the main straight, where Turn 1 is the main overtaking spot, and the Portimão corner, a long bend that drivers take in two parts, as places to watch.

As a trip, this is an Algarve holiday with a race in the middle. The circuit sits inland at Mexilhoeira Grande, a short drive from Portimão and the coast, and about 82 km from Faro airport by the A22 motorway, according to the circuit. There is no published public transport to the gate for 2027, so most people will drive, or buy one of the promoter's travel packages, which bundle race tickets with hotel nights and either parking or a shuttle.

Where you stay shapes the weekend: Portimão and Praia da Rocha are closest, Lagos and Albufeira are further along the coast, and Faro is handy for the airport but about an hour's drive from the track. Children under 3 aren't admitted, under Portuguese law.

  • The Portimão corner, a long two-part bend formula1.com singles out as a sight worth seeing.
  • A choice of viewing: 3-day general admission, grandstands in the North and South zones and Portimão Stands, and hospitality lounges, all sold on the official site.
  • The Algarve setting: the circuit is inland from Portimão, with the beaches of Praia da Rocha and the rest of the coast a short drive away.

▸ Getting there

Getting there & around on event days

From the UK: fly to Faro (FAO), the Algarve's airport. Faro Airport lists flights from London Gatwick (LGW), London Heathrow (LHR), London City (LCY), London Luton (LTN), London Stansted (STN) and London Southend (SEN), and from Manchester (MAN), Birmingham (BHX), Bristol (BRS), Edinburgh (EDI), Glasgow (GLA), Belfast (BFS), Newcastle (NCL), Leeds (LBA), Liverpool (LPL), East Midlands (EMA) and several other UK airports, with British Airways, easyJet, Jet2.com, Ryanair, TUI and Wizz Air. Check each airline for June 2027 schedules. Lisbon (LIS) is an alternative, but the circuit puts it about 290 km and two and a half hours away by road. British citizens can visit Portugal without a visa for up to 90 days in any 180-day period; under the EU's Entry/Exit System you may need to register fingerprints and a photo at the border.

Faro airport to the circuit: the circuit gives the drive as about 81.8 km and 53 minutes via the A22 motorway, leaving at exit 3 and following the CM1054 for the last 7 km. The A22 is a toll road; GOV.UK advises making sure you understand Portugal's toll system before you drive. Without a car, Faro Airport lists the Aerobus Get On (Vamus) service to Albufeira, Portimão and Lagos, and buses or taxis to Faro station for CP trains across the Algarve.

On race days: 2027 transport details aren't published yet. The official site sells parking tickets (one per attendee) and travel packages with a shuttle, but doesn't list public buses to the circuit. Plan on driving, a taxi or a package shuttle, and allow extra time on the CM1054 approach road.

Tickets & entry

When checked on 29 October 2026, 2027 tickets were already on sale: 3-day general admission, grandstands (including the South Zone, North Zone, Portimão, First Corner and Lower and Upper Main stands), hospitality lounges and travel packages with hotel nights. Each ticket has to be assigned to a named attendee.

The ticket terms say tickets are non-transferable and not for resale, and you may be refused entry with a ticket from an unauthorised vendor. The booking pages warn that tickets resold anywhere other than portugalf1gp.com will be cancelled. Tickets are non-refundable unless the event is cancelled. Questions go to help@portugalf1gp.com or tickets@autodromodoalgarve.com.

▸ Good to know

Practical tips & etiquette

Plan your transport: the circuit is inland with no published public transport for race days, so a car, a taxi or a package shuttle is how you'll get there. The A22 has electronic tolls.

What you can't bring: the ticket terms ban bottles, cans, glass and your own food and drink (unless venue rules allow), drones, selfie sticks, walkie-talkies and laser devices, air horns, vuvuzelas, whistles, flares and fireworks, bicycles, scooters, skateboards and prams, and political or offensive banners. Bags are searched at entry.

Children: under-3s aren't admitted, under Portuguese law, and under-16s must be supervised at all times. No re-entry is allowed after the end of each day.

Noise: the ticket terms advise everyone, especially children, to wear hearing protection during races.

Heat and fire risk: June is early summer in the Algarve. GOV.UK warns of higher-than-normal summer temperatures and a high wildfire risk from April to October, so bring sun protection and water and follow any local fire warnings.

Photos: phones and still cameras are fine for personal use; recordings can't be used commercially.

▸ Accessibility

Accessibility

The official race site doesn't yet publish accessibility information for 2027: no details of accessible grandstands, parking or companion tickets were available when checked on 29 October 2026. Registered assistance dogs are admitted. Before booking, contact the organisers at help@portugalf1gp.com or the circuit's ticket office at tickets@autodromodoalgarve.com (+351 282 405 600).

Faro Airport says taxis adapted for passengers with reduced mobility can be booked through Auto Faro and Táxis Pinheiro & Delmira.

▸ Safety & travel advice

It warns of a high risk of wildfires from April to October, when the authorities may evacuate areas and close roads, and of higher-than-normal summer temperatures. In an emergency, call 112. Strikes, including at airports, can be announced at short notice.
