▸ What it is

Formula 1 races at Silverstone on 2–4 July 2027, a Sprint weekend with an opening concert on Thursday and shuttle buses from five railway stations.

The Formula 1 British Grand Prix is held at Silverstone Circuit in Northamptonshire, near Towcester, on the site of a former RAF airfield. formula1.com lists the 2027 race as Round 10, from Friday 2 to Sunday 4 July 2027. Silverstone hosted the very first Formula 1 World Championship race in May 1950 and, by its own count, has staged all but 17 British Grands Prix since.

2027 is a Sprint weekend (a short extra race on Saturday, on top of Sunday's Grand Prix): formula1.com shows Practice 1 and Sprint Qualifying (a short session that sets the starting order for the Sprint) on Friday, the Sprint and Qualifying on Saturday, and the Grand Prix on Sunday. Session times for 2027 are still TBC. Silverstone runs the event over four days, opening with a concert on Thursday 1 July, and Formula 2 and Formula 3 also race across the weekend. Every admission ticket includes that day's evening concert, the fan zone and the Silverstone Museum.

The circuit is 5.891 km long and one of the fastest on the calendar, with historic corners such as Maggotts, Becketts and Abbey. formula1.com picks the Becketts and Stowe grandstands as the best places to watch. The site covers about 600 acres of grass, gravel and tarmac, so expect to walk a lot.

As a trip, this is a countryside race: there are no stations at the circuit, so you either drive and park, use Silverstone's park and ride, take a train to a nearby station and the official shuttle bus, or come by coach. Many fans stay all weekend in the circuit's own campsites, and towns such as Towcester, Milton Keynes, Northampton, Banbury and Oxford have more choice and shuttle links.

▸ What to expect

Highlights

  • Maggotts and Becketts: formula1.com rates the Becketts grandstand among the best places in F1 to watch cars change direction at speed.
  • Stowe: formula1.com names the Stowe grandstands as one of the best overtaking spots on the lap.
  • A Sprint weekend in 2027: a Sprint and Sprint Qualifying join the Grand Prix, according to formula1.com.
  • Concerts every night: Silverstone puts on a main-stage headline act each evening, starting with the Thursday opening concert, all included in that day's ticket.
  • Silverstone Museum and fan zones: open all weekend to ticket holders, with simulators, a family zone and the history of British motorsport.

▸ Getting there

Getting there & around on event days

Getting to the area: Silverstone is about 90 minutes north of central London via the M40 and A43, and about 60 minutes south of Birmingham via the M1 and A43, according to the circuit. Its general travel page warns of major roadworks on the A43 between Towcester and Silverstone, so allow extra time. Flying in from Scotland, Northern Ireland or abroad, the circuit lists London Luton Airport (LTN) at 68 km, Birmingham Airport (BHX) at 88 km and Heathrow (LHR) at 108 km. The closest stations are Wolverton (about 16 km, direct trains to London Euston, Birmingham New Street and Northampton), Milton Keynes, Northampton and Banbury; check times and engineering works on National Rail.

On race days (Silverstone's 2027 getting-here page; times and details may change):

  • Train and shuttle bus: official buses run from Milton Keynes (about 50 minutes), Northampton (40), Banbury (50), Coventry (80) and Oxford Parkway (50) stations and drop you about 2 minutes from the Abbey and Brooklands entrances. A return costs £8 per person per day, with the cheapest advance prices if you book before 31 March 2027. Check the last train home before you travel.
  • Shuttle buses from towns: also from Towcester (15 minutes), Buckingham (20), Brackley (25), Sixfields, Bicester and Hinton, at the same price. The published 2027 timetable has inbound buses from 06:30 on Friday and Saturday and from 05:30 on Sunday, and the last outbound buses at 23:00 (22:30 on Sunday).
  • Park and ride: park at Sixfields, Bicester or Hinton, which Silverstone says are close to major motorway connections, and take the shuttle; you need an £8 bus ticket per person and a £10 vehicle pass per car.
  • Coach: Silverstone's official coach partners, National Express and Megabus, run services from towns and cities across the UK to a drop-off a few minutes' walk from the Luffield entrance. National Express advertises returns from £37.
  • Driving: parking must be booked, spaces near the venue are very limited and many car parks are on grass up to a 30-minute walk from the gates; Silverstone advises allowing at least an extra hour and recommends park and ride or the buses instead. Motorbike parking is free. There's no general drop-off at the circuit; locals can use a drop-off and pick-up point at Towcester Racecourse with a pre-booked bus.
  • Helicopter: Silverstone's partner Air Charter Service runs shared helicopter transfers from Turweston Aerodrome.

▸ Tickets & entry

Tickets & entry

Tickets for 2027 are on sale now from Silverstone, the official ticket seller, at silverstone.co.uk. Options include General Admission (single day or weekend, with viewing areas such as Chapel, Hangar Straight, Luffield, Becketts and Village), General Admission Plus with a dedicated standing area, reserved seats for all three days in more than 20 grandstands, enclosures, and hospitality. Grandstand tickets include general admission, and every admission ticket includes that day's evening concert.

Children under 2 go free but still need a ticket; under-11s get free General Admission on Friday, 50% off General Admission on other days and 25% off in selected grandstands, with a maximum of two child tickets per paying adult. Tickets are delivered in the Silverstone Tickets app closer to the event.

Silverstone doesn't allow F1 tickets to be resold and says resold tickets can be cancelled without refund. It guarantees entry only with tickets bought directly from Silverstone or its official hospitality partners and agents, and warns against unauthorised resale sites such as Viagogo and StubHub. You can transfer tickets to friends or family, but one ticket per day must stay with the original buyer.

▸ Good to know

Practical tips & etiquette

Book travel early: Silverstone says race-weekend travel options fill up and its cheapest shuttle and park-and-ride prices apply to bookings made before 31 March 2027.

Allow time: roads to the circuit get very busy, car parks can be a 30-minute walk from the gates, and bags are searched at the entrance. Leave early, especially on Sunday.

What to bring: one bag per person, no larger than 20 litres. Silverstone's current prohibited-items list rules out glass, alcohol, BBQs, tents or shelters, sun parasols, step ladders, drones, lasers, flares, privately owned e-scooters and e-bikes, and fancy dress; check the 2027 list before you travel. There's no luggage storage on site.

Payments: Silverstone describes itself as a cashless venue with no cash machines, so bring a card or phone.

Weather: a British July can be hot or wet, and many grandstands are uncovered; Silverstone lists which are covered (including Becketts, Club Corner, Copse A–C and Woodcote A–B) but recommends weather-appropriate clothing wherever you sit. Bring sun protection and waterproofs.

Noise: F1 cars are loud; ear protection is sensible for everyone, especially children.

▸ Accessibility

Accessibility

Silverstone has purpose-built wheelchair-accessible viewing platforms at Abbey and National Pit Straight (a wheelchair bay plus up to two companion seats), accessible spaces in the Woodcote B grandstand, and concrete terraces at Luffield Complex, Luffield and Copse. For the British Grand Prix these must be booked in advance and are subject to availability. Other grandstands aren't wheelchair accessible and can have 30–40 steps.

The Personal Assistance scheme gives one free ticket for a partner, friend or PA to disabled ticket holders who need full-time assistance, with evidence such as higher-rate DLA or enhanced-rate PIP; applications close the Thursday before the event. Blue Badge parking is in Car Park 50B (gravel), closest to Gates 16 and 19: buy official parking, then email your Blue Badge and booking reference to get a disabled parking pass. Silverstone says all its event bus services are accessible.

The site covers about 600 acres of grass, gravel and uneven ground, so Silverstone strongly recommends bringing a mobility aid even if you don't usually use one; electric scooters and manual wheelchairs can be pre-booked through its partner Advanced Mobility. Permanent toilet blocks are wheelchair accessible (RADAR key), with a changing facility and hoist in the Silverstone Museum. An accessibility guide with routes and on-site transport is published closer to the event; contact the team via the accessibility page.

Safety & travel advice

Expect enhanced security at the gates: you and your bag may be searched, and confiscated items may not be returned. Don't leave bags unattended. Allow plenty of time on Sunday, when traffic around the circuit is heaviest.
