▸ What it is

Formula 1 races at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, Styria, on 9–11 July 2027, with free shuttles from Knittelfeld station and campsites by the track.

The Formula 1 Austrian Grand Prix is held at the Red Bull Ring, a 4.326 km circuit in Spielberg in the Murtal valley of Styria, about 88 km from Graz. formula1.com lists the 2027 race as Round 11, from Friday 9 to Sunday 11 July 2027. It isn't a Sprint weekend: formula1.com shows Practice 1 and 2 on Friday, Practice 3 and Qualifying on Saturday, and the Grand Prix on Sunday. Session times for 2027 are still TBC.

The circuit sits in a natural bowl in the Styrian mountains. It has only 10 corners, but a 65 m height difference with gradients of up to 12%, and the circuit says the terrain gives spectators a view of large parts of the track. The first half of the lap is three straights joined by uphill right-handers; the second half drops downhill through quicker corners. Turn 3, the slowest corner, is the circuit's pick for overtaking, and formula1.com names the Nord grandstand as one of the best views in F1.

The weekend is a big outdoor event: the circuit reported 320,000 spectators at the 2026 race, with Formula 2, Formula 3 and support races, an F1 Fan Zone and the Steiermark Village with live music, all included with a race ticket. Many fans camp beside the circuit for the whole weekend.

As a trip, this is a rural circuit, so plan transport and a bed early. You can camp at the official campsites, stay in Murtal towns such as Knittelfeld, Judenburg and Zeltweg, or base yourself in Graz and take the train to Knittelfeld, from where free shuttle buses run to the circuit. Tickets for 2027 are already on sale through the circuit's official shop.

▸ What to expect

Highlights

  • A circuit in a mountain bowl: the circuit says the terrain gives you a view over large parts of the track, with the Styrian Alps behind.
  • The Nord grandstand: formula1.com calls its view one of the best in Formula 1, looking across the track as it drops down the slope.
  • Turn 3: the slowest corner on the lap and, according to the circuit, a true overtaking hotspot after the climb from Turn 1.
  • F1 Fan Zone and Steiermark Village: DJs, Styrian bands, driver appearances and the Styrian Green Carpet, included with every race ticket, according to the circuit.
  • Camping at the track: official campsites within walking distance of the circuit; at the latest edition they opened from the Wednesday before the race.
▸ Where to stay

Where to stay for Formula 1 Austrian Grand Prix

  • Official campsites: about a dozen colour-coded campsites, all within walking distance of the circuit, booked through the official ticket shop. At the latest edition they opened all day on Wednesday and Thursday; camping isn't allowed in the car parks.
  • Murtal towns (Spielberg, Knittelfeld, Judenburg, Zeltweg): guesthouses and holiday flats close to the circuit. Knittelfeld station and Judenburg bus station have free race-day shuttles. The circuit suggests checking the Murtal Tourist Board, or calling the tourist office on +43 3577 26600 if nothing shows online.
  • Graz: Austria's second city, with far more hotels, about 88 km away. Take an ÖBB train to Knittelfeld and the free shuttle from there.
  • Hotels listed by the circuit: its site lists a handful of hotels in the Murtal region.

The circuit itself advises booking accommodation for the race weekend early, saying the wide choice is only there for those who book in advance.

▸ Getting there

Getting there & around on event days

From the UK: the nearest large airports are Graz (GRZ), which the circuit puts about 88 km and an hour away by road, and Vienna (VIE), about 200 km and two hours. Graz Airport lists a BA Euroflyer (British Airways) route to London Gatwick (LGW) three times a week, marked as a winter route, so check whether it runs in July. Vienna Airport's airline directory includes British Airways, easyJet, Jet2.com and Ryanair; check the airlines for UK routes and July 2027 schedules. Klagenfurt (KLU, 117 km), Linz (LNZ, 192 km) and Salzburg (SZG, 235 km) are further options. From Graz Airport, Flughafen Graz/Feldkirchen station is about 300 m from the terminal, with S-Bahn trains to Graz Hauptbahnhof.

Entry: British citizens can visit Austria without a visa for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. Under the EU's Entry/Exit System you may need to register fingerprints and a photo at the border, so allow extra time, according to GOV.UK.

On race days (from the circuit's current arrival pages; 2027 timetables may change):

  • Train and free shuttle: take an ÖBB train to Knittelfeld station. Free shuttle buses run from there to the circuit and back, Friday to Sunday, every 20 minutes from 07:00 to 20:00 and every 30 minutes from 20:00 to 23:00 (until 20:00 on Sunday). A second free shuttle runs from Judenburg bus station every 30 minutes. Within Styria, a one-day Freizeit-Ticket covers regional trains and buses (€14 a day at the latest edition; not valid on Railjet, Intercity or EuroCity trains).
  • Long-distance shuttle buses: the circuit's bookable coach shuttle picks up at over 120 stops in Salzburg, Carinthia, Lower Austria, Vienna and Styria and drops you at the circuit. Seats are limited, and race tickets are sold separately.
  • Driving: parking is free, within walking distance and needs no reservation; the car parks open one hour before the gates. Police and stewards direct you to a car park by your route and ticket type, and the circuit recommends arriving before 08:00 and expects delays leaving on Sunday. Austrian motorways and expressways need a vignette (toll sticker), and the Gleinalm and Bosruck tunnels are tolled separately. A limited number of paid spaces are closer to the gates.
  • Bike: three free bike parks around the circuit, plus a free Park & Bike car park at Therme Fohnsdorf (S36, exit Judenburg-Ost).
  • Taxi: a taxi rank is in front of the circuit entrance.

The circuit's arrival pages are built around the car, with free parking for every visitor, so a hire car from Graz or Vienna is the most flexible option. For the region, see our Graz guide and our Austria guide.

▸ Tickets & entry

Tickets & entry

Tickets are sold by the circuit through its official ticket shop, and 2027 tickets are already on sale. You can buy weekend or Sunday tickets for grandstands (numbered seats) or general admission, which covers the standing areas, the F1 Fan Zone and the Steiermark Village. When checked on 29 October 2026, many Red Bull grandstand sectors and grandstand-hopping packages were sold out, while general admission, the Steiermark grandstand and the T3 and T10 grandstands (named after Turns 3 and 10) were still listed.

Children under 15 need a child ticket and must be with a paying adult; at the time of checking, general admission child tickets were free. Holders of a disabled badge get 50% off. All tickets are digital (PDF) and are sent no later than 10 days before the race. Campsites, parking and the coach shuttle are booked in the same shop.

The circuit says reselling tickets and parking permits isn't allowed, and asks you to report suspected unauthorised ticket trading to security.

▸ Good to know

Practical tips & etiquette

Book early: the circuit advises booking accommodation in advance for the race weekend.

Arrive early: the circuit recommends arriving before 08:00 by car; campers are told to arrive before 09:00 on Friday and Saturday, and departure from the campsites may not be allowed until 20:00 on Sunday.

What you can bring (latest edition's rules): plastic bottles and cans for your own use, and aluminium or thermos bottles up to 1.5 litres. Not allowed: alcohol, glass, fireworks and flares, weapons, and large umbrellas and parasols in the grandstands (compact umbrellas are fine in standing areas). Bags bigger than A3 (297 × 420 mm) that won't fit under your seat aren't allowed in the grandstands, and pushchairs aren't allowed on site.

Heat and rain: early July can be hot. The circuit provides free water stations, water-mist stations behind the grandstands and free sunscreen dispensers; bring a hat. Free rain ponchos are available at the info points if a shower comes through.

Payments: many outlets are cashless and take major debit and credit cards or the circuit's cashless card; drinks come in reusable cups with a €3 deposit.

Noise and children: the circuit urges everyone to wear ear protection and recommends not bringing children under six.

Get the app: the circuit's app has the interactive site map, entrances, programme and live updates.

▸ Accessibility

Accessibility

Wheelchair spaces are only on the Start-Finish (Start-Ziel) grandstand, which has a ramp and accessible toilets on the same level as the seats. Book the specific Start-Finish wheelchair ticket, plus one companion ticket per wheelchair user; the circuit says all other grandstands aren't step-free. When checked on 29 October 2026, the 2027 wheelchair and companion tickets were shown as sold out. Holders of a disabled badge get 50% off tickets.

Wheelchair users with Start-Finish tickets get a parking permit to drive right up to the circuit, and the wheelchair car park has its own contact point with trained staff. Accessible toilets are marked on the map in the circuit's app, and not all toilets on site are accessible.

For blind and visually impaired visitors there's live audio description on 94.2 FM and in the app, and the app shows the track announcer's commentary as live text for deaf and hard-of-hearing visitors. Two Mental Cooldown Rooms, in the F1 Fan Zone and the general admission area, offer a quiet space. For questions, contact the ticket support team on +43 1 796 94 90 or through the circuit's F1 glossary page.

▸ Safety & travel advice

Safety & travel advice

The FCDO doesn't advise against travel to Austria. It says terrorists are likely to try to carry out attacks in Austria, including at sporting events, so stay alert and follow local advice. At the circuit everyone goes through a security check, which may include a body search, and bags and vehicles are inspected. In an emergency, call 133 (police) or 112; there's a police station at the circuit's Welcome Center.
