▸ What it is

Formula 1 races at Madring, around Madrid's IFEMA exhibition centre, on 10–12 September 2027, by Metro and Cercanías from the city and airport.

The Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix moved to Madrid in 2026, to Madring, a new circuit laid out around the IFEMA MADRID exhibition centre in the north-east of the city, near the airport. formula1.com lists the 2027 race as Round 15, from Friday 10 to Sunday 12 September 2027, the weekend after the Italian Grand Prix. The organiser is IFEMA MADRID, and the promoter says its agreement with Formula 1 runs until 2036.

The 2027 weekend follows the standard format on formula1.com: two practice sessions on Friday, the third practice session and Qualifying on Saturday, and the Grand Prix on Sunday. Session times for 2027 are still TBC. Formula 2 and Formula 3 also race.

The 5.4 km lap mixes public roads with private land, with 22 corners, steep climbs and drops, and La Monumental, a semicircular banked turn about 550 metres long with 24% banking that the promoter says around 45,000 spectators can watch. formula1.com compares the layout to the Miami circuit and calls Turn 12 a sure winner for spectators. The promoter reported 352,618 attendees over the 2026 weekend.

For spectators, the venue is split into two separate sectors, MADRING North (near Valdebebas) and MADRING South (by the IFEMA halls), and you can't cross between them inside the circuit: your ticket fixes your gate and fan zone. Tickets are 3-day passes only. There's no on-site parking for general spectators, but Metro Line 8 and Cercanías line C-1 both link the airport, the city centre and the circuit, so it's an easy race to reach by public transport.

▸ What to expect

Highlights

  • La Monumental (Turn 12): the banked semicircle, about 550 m long with 24% banking, which formula1.com picks as a surefire place to watch; the promoter says around 45,000 spectators can see it.
  • Turn 1: the promoter calls it a prime overtaking spot, with cars braking from 320 km/h to 100 km/h.
  • Fan zones with a Madrid flavour: each ticket includes a fan zone with food from street food to well-known chefs, live DJs, simulators and exhibitions, according to the promoter.
  • More shade for 2027: the promoter says the 2027 event will have more shaded areas, more water points and more entertainment, with drinking fountains and giant screens around the venue.
  • Support races: Formula 2 and Formula 3 race on the same weekend, according to the promoter's FAQ.
▸ Where to stay

Where to stay for Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix

  • Central Madrid (Sol, Gran Vía, Atocha): the most choice. The promoter recommends Cercanías line C-1 to Valdebebas for the North sector, connecting from Atocha, Recoletos or Nuevos Ministerios via Chamartín; Metro Line 8 from Nuevos Ministerios runs to Feria de Madrid for the South sector.
  • Chamartín and the north (Castellana): closer to the circuit, on Cercanías C-1 and near Metro Line 4 for the Mar de Cristal and San Lorenzo stations. The promoter also listed a shuttle bus from Plaza de Castilla to Valdebebas for the North gates.
  • Barajas and Valdebebas: next to the airport and a short ride from the circuit; the promoter's official hotel list includes hotels in this area. Book official hotels at hotels.madring.com.

The promoter notes the circuit is inside the city, with many hotel options. Check which sector your ticket is for (North or South) before you choose, since the nearest stations differ.

Getting there & around on event days

From the UK: fly to Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport (MAD). Check the airlines for current routes and schedules from the UK. The promoter's transport map shows Metro Line 8 running from Airport T4 to Feria de Madrid, the station for the South sector, and Cercanías line C-1 running from Airport T4 via Valdebebas, the station for the North sector.

Entry: Spain is in the Schengen area. GOV.UK says British citizens can visit visa-free for up to 90 days in any 180-day period; your passport must have been issued less than 10 years before you arrive and be valid for at least 3 months after you plan to leave. Border officers may ask for a return ticket, travel insurance and proof of funds.

On race days (from the promoter's current getting-there page and FAQ; 2027 arrangements may change):

  • Metro: gates A, B and C1 use Feria de Madrid (Line 8); gate C2 uses Mar de Cristal (Lines 8 and 4); gate D uses Valdebebas (Cercanías C-1) or San Lorenzo (Line 4); gate E uses Valdebebas. Check your gate in the MADRING app.
  • Cercanías: line C-1 to Valdebebas is the most direct route to the North fan zone, according to the promoter.
  • Shuttle buses: the FAQ lists shuttles from Canillejas metro (Line 5) for gates A, B and C1, and from Plaza de Castilla to Valdebebas for gates D and E. The getting-there page also mentions shuttles from Avenida de América and the Metropolitano stadium.
  • EMT buses: lines 73, 112, 122 and SE709 stop at Feria de Madrid; 104, 112 and 171 at Mar de Cristal; 171, 174 and BR1 for gates D and E.
  • Taxi and ride-hailing: designated drop-off points near each gate (for example Avenida de los Andes for gates A, B and C1); not recommended for gate C2, which is a 30–35 minute walk from the nearest drop-off.

▸ Tickets & entry

Tickets & entry

Tickets are sold on the official site, madring.com: grandstand and general admission tickets through its ticketing platform, and hospitality separately. 2027 general sale opened on 29 September 2026 at 17:00, after an American Express presale, and grandstand tickets are on sale until sold out. Grandstands come in Gold (main straight), Silver (corners and technical sections) and Bronze tiers, plus general admission zones.

All tickets are 3-day passes (Friday to Sunday) with one QR code for the weekend, held in the official MADRING app; there are no single-day tickets. You can buy up to 10, and every attendee needs a ticket except children under 2 who don't take a seat. Tickets are non-refundable unless the event is cancelled.

Resale isn't allowed. You can transfer a ticket until its wristband is activated, and the promoter says entry may be refused with a ticket bought through an unauthorised provider.

▸ Good to know

Practical tips & etiquette

Cashless venue: pay by card throughout. Cash isn't accepted, but you can top up your wristband and pay with MAD-COINS at outlets that take them.

No re-entry: once your ticket has been scanned you can't leave and come back the same day. The promoter's FAQ gives venue hours of 08:00 to 19:30; check again nearer the race.

Stay in your sector: the North and South sectors aren't connected inside the circuit, so check your gate and fan zone in the app before you set off.

Prohibited items: include glass bottles, metal bottles and cans, plastic bottles over 500 ml, alcohol, large backpacks (over 40 × 30 cm), suitcases, umbrellas, folding chairs, tents, portable speakers, tripods and selfie sticks, professional cameras, drones and pets. Bags may be searched at the gates.

Heat: the promoter says early-September highs are usually around 26–29 °C, with nights of 14–17 °C, and little rain. There are drinking fountains and shaded rest areas, but bring sun protection since umbrellas aren't allowed.

Noise: the promoter recommends hearing protection, especially for children.

Children: under-18s must be with a responsible adult; children under 6 with an adult who isn't their parent or guardian need a signed authorisation.

▸ Accessibility

Accessibility

The promoter sells PRM (reduced mobility) tickets in selected accessible grandstands and all hospitality areas through a dedicated link on its tickets page; if you attend with a companion, both tickets must be bought in the same transaction. PRM tickets include the option to request an accessible parking space, subject to validation, and taxis can drop off at the disabled car parks on Calle Ribera del Sena (gates A, B, C1) and Avenida de las Fuerzas Armadas (gates D, E).

A Fundación ONCE team is on site to help with orientation and mobility, signage carries NaviLens codes you can read with the free NaviLens or NaviLens GO apps, and there are accessible toilets around the venue. Guide and assistance dogs are allowed, though the promoter notes the high noise levels. The South sector's fan zones are fully asphalted; the North sector's are on cement-stabilised ground that can be slightly uneven. See the accessible circuit page for contact forms.

▸ Safety & travel advice

Safety & travel advice

The FCDO doesn't advise against travel to Spain. It warns that thieves often work in teams using distraction techniques, so watch your belongings on busy metro and train journeys to the circuit. Expect bag searches at the gates.
