▸ What it is

Formula 1 races at Monza on 3–5 September 2027, a Sprint weekend in the Parco di Monza, reached by train from Milan.

The Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix is held at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza, inside the Parco di Monza, just north-east of Milan. formula1.com lists the 2027 race as Round 14, from Friday 3 to Sunday 5 September 2027, and the circuit says it will be the 98th Italian Grand Prix.

2027 is a Sprint weekend (a short extra race on Saturday, on top of Sunday's Grand Prix): formula1.com shows Practice 1 and Sprint Qualifying (a short session that sets the starting order for the Sprint) on Friday, the Sprint and Qualifying on Saturday, and the Grand Prix on Sunday. Session times for 2027 are still TBC.

Monza was built in 110 days in 1922, the world's third purpose-built race track, and it has been on the calendar since the first championship in 1950. The 5.793 km lap is famous for speed: formula1.com says cars are on full throttle for about 80% of it, reaching their top speed on the 1.1 km start-finish straight before braking hard into tight chicanes (zigzag corners). Sections of the old banked oval are preserved and visible from the track.

As a venue, it feels like a day out in a park: grandstands and lawns sit among the trees, and the circuit points to the tifosi, the Italian fans, as a big part of the atmosphere. Children up to 11 get into the general admission lawns free with an adult.

For a trip, most people stay in Milan or Monza and travel in by train. Spectators can't drive into the circuit, and for 2026 Trenord ran extra trains from Milan to Monza and to Biassono-Lesmo Parco, the closest station, plus a train-and-shuttle ticket. 2027 tickets have been on general sale since 24 September 2026.

▸ What to expect

Highlights

  • The Variante del Rettifilo: formula1.com picks the grandstand at the first chicane, where cars brake from around 350 km/h to about 70 km/h, as the best place to watch, and one of the main overtaking spots.
  • The old banking: the preserved banked curves can be seen behind the Curva Alboreto (Parabolica) and from the flyover the cars pass under before the Variante Ascari, according to formula1.com.
  • A Sprint weekend in 2027: a Sprint and Sprint Qualifying join the Grand Prix, according to formula1.com.
  • The tifosi: the circuit describes the Italian fans, the 'red tide', as a leading part of every Monza Grand Prix.
  • A parkland setting: the track runs through the Parco di Monza, which formula1.com describes as a relaxed, leafy setting for a Grand Prix.
▸ Where to stay

Where to stay for Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix

  • Milan, near Porta Garibaldi: the S7 suburban line runs from Milano Porta Garibaldi to Biassono-Lesmo Parco, the station Trenord calls the closest to the circuit. For 2026 it ran 21 direct race-day trains on this route and extended the S7's evening service.
  • Milan, near Centrale: the widest choice of hotels, and the main stop for airport shuttles. For 2026 Trenord ran extra trains between Milano Centrale and Monza on Saturday and Sunday.
  • Monza town: closest to the park. The circuit says Monza station is about 6.6 km from the circuit, linked by buses 204 (to the Vedano gate) and 221 (to the Biassono gate) from Corso Milano, near the station.
  • Sesto San Giovanni: at the end of Milan Metro Line 1. The circuit says you can change at Sesto 1º Maggio FS to bus Z221 for Biassono-Vedano.

There's no spectator parking inside the circuit, so wherever you stay, plan to arrive by train, bus or taxi.

▸ Getting there

Getting there & around on event days

From the UK: fly to one of Milan's airports. The circuit lists Milan Linate (LIN), about 25 km away, Milan Malpensa (MXP), about 50 km away, and Milan Bergamo (BGY, Orio al Serio), about 40 km away. Check the airlines for current routes and schedules from the UK. From the airports, the circuit suggests heading to a Milan rail station first: the Malpensa Express runs from Terminal 1 to Milano Cadorna, the STARFLY shuttle runs every 30 minutes from Linate to Milano Centrale, and coaches link Bergamo airport with Milano Centrale.

Entry: Italy is in the Schengen area. GOV.UK says British citizens can visit visa-free for up to 90 days in any 180-day period; your passport must have been issued less than 10 years before you arrive and be valid for at least 3 months after you plan to leave. Border officers may ask for proof of accommodation, insurance and a return ticket.

On race days (2027 arrangements aren't published yet; this is what Trenord ran for the 2026 race):

  • Train to Biassono-Lesmo Parco: the S7 line from Milano Porta Garibaldi stops at the closest station to the circuit. In 2026 Trenord ran 21 extra non-stop trains on race day (12 in the morning, 9 back in the afternoon) with a special €5 return ticket, and extended the S7 until 22:30 on Saturday and Sunday.
  • Train to Monza plus shuttle: in 2026 the €10 'Treno+Navetta Nera' ticket covered a return train from any Milan station to Monza and the Black Line shuttle bus to Gate G. Trenord also added eight extra trains between Milano Centrale and Monza on Saturday and Sunday.
  • From elsewhere in Lombardy: the 2026 'GP Monza Trenord Day Pass' (€13) covered a return trip to Monza or Biassono-Lesmo, with free travel for under-14s travelling with the holder.
  • Bus: buses 204 and 221 run from Corso Milano, near Monza station, to the Vedano and Biassono gates (paid services).
  • Taxi: taxis and chauffeur-driven cars can use the circuit's dedicated vehicle gates.
  • Driving: spectators can't take cars or motorbikes into the circuit, and the circuit publishes outside parking and traffic information nearer the event.

Trenord publishes the race-weekend timetable and special tickets on trenord.it and its app before the event. For the city, see our Milan guide.

▸ Tickets & entry

Tickets & entry

Tickets are sold by the circuit's official channels: monzanet.it and its partner TicketOne (online, at TicketOne outlets and by phone), participating Automobile Club offices and the circuit's own sales points. The circuit names formula1.com among authorised resellers and says it isn't responsible for their extra fees. 2027 tickets went on sale to everyone on 24 September 2026 at 12:00, and the circuit says more tickets are released progressively until capacity is reached.

You can buy a single-day ticket or a three-day pass (Friday to Sunday); the three-day pass is one ticket that can't be split by day. Tickets are bearer tickets, not in your name, with a maximum of 10 per account. Numbered grandstand seats are chosen on the map when you buy. Children up to 11 get free general admission to the lawns with an adult, and reduced grandstand prices (one per full-price ticket). Paddock passes aren't sold to the public.

▸ Accessibility

Accessibility

The circuit's Grand Prix accreditation scheme gives free entry to spectators with a certified disability of at least 75%, subject to accreditation and available places, plus a ticket for one companion. Spectators who can walk can use the lawns free or buy reduced-price seats in a dedicated section of Grandstand 7 (Biassono); there's no internal parking for them. Wheelchair users get reserved places on Grandstand 31, and accreditation holders there can use a reserved car park shown on their confirmation, subject to availability and traffic limits.

The circuit says details of 2027 registration and accreditation requests will be announced. If you're not sure how a UK disability certification applies, contact the circuit before buying: see its disability accreditation page (in Italian) or the contacts page (switchboard 039 24821, Monday to Friday).

▸ Safety & travel advice

Safety & travel advice

The FCDO doesn't advise against travel to Italy. It warns of pickpocketing and bag-snatching in city centres and on public transport, including main train and metro stations, so keep your belongings close on crowded race-day trains. FCDO also notes that demonstrations can happen in Italian cities, sometimes affecting transport; check its advice before you travel.
